What bird made this nest?
Thanks and tip of the amateur naturalist’s hat to the Kelly family of Dover-Foxcroft ME for sending the photo above with the query, “Whose nest is that?”
The nest was built on the ground, well concealed by a clump of ferns, and made of twigs, weed stalks, grape vine bark, and dead leaves. It is lined with finer grasses and some pine needles. The inside diameter is about 2 1/4 inches.
The eggs are blue-green in color, oval, smooth, with a slight gloss.
The habitat was at the edge of a weedy field, near a small stream with willow shrubs, and across an unpaved road bordered by mixed coniferous and hardwood trees.
Any guesses or questions that would further aid in identifying the species of bird that made this nest?
